Youth report

Our newly elected Youth Coordinator, Tom Oriti, reports:

On Wednesday the 23rd of April BLU FM's youth held their first youth meeting at the station.

Various topics were discussed including the youth page on the BLU FM website, content of programs that would make each show more relevant and interesting to the target audience, fundraising ideas for the station (a youth music event is already in the planning stages), ways for youth to publicise the station and other ways to become involved at BLU FM.

Although it was a small turnout numerous useful ideas were raised, and especially for the new additions to the station - it was an informative discussion and we hope to have another meeting in the near future.

If you are interested in a copy of the minutes of this meeting email Tom Oriti - webmaster@blufm.org.au

Surf Party

It was not a good night weather-wise for a surf party and those who came along last Thursday night enjoyed a fairly quite night.

Thanks go to John Tognolini of Katoomba Surf Club (Sundays 8.00 pm) and his wife Trish for the great work they put into this event. Hopefully we’ll try it again in the summer!

Film Screening

We had a good roll up to meet visiting American filmmakers Shelli Lipton and Nathan Koenig and view their film on the history of the Woodstock Music Festival.

Several people travelled up from Sydney for the event and a couple of locals revealed that they have every record made by every band that appeared at the original 1969 Woodstock Festival!

After the screening, we adjourned to the 34 hectare Culture Lab property at Yellow Rock for a barbecue and party and to view more of Shelli and Nathan’s films.

So, thanks to the Culture Lab crew for their generous hospitality.

Thanks also to Scenic World for use of their fine cinema and the Velvet Fog for acting as our ticketing agents.

Special thanks are due to Michael Riddell for organising this event and for working so hard to make it a success.

Planning Meeting

Our planning meeting was a success and the think-tank provided a good foundation for our strategic plan. Those who participated will meet again to build a more detailed framework for the plan which is expected to be finished by 15 June.

Winter Magic Festival

This year’s Winter Magic Festival is scheduled for Saturday 21 June. BLU FM has always supported the festival and this year we will undoubtedly do an outside broadcast on the day.

There is also interest amongst members in again hosting the busking competition. This year we are also expecting to have a presence in the parade. Suggestions for other activities have come from members.

The organisers have announced a much reduced festival for this year. They have called a meeting to discuss arrangements. This will be at the Carrington Library on Monday 5 May at 6.00 pm. BLU FM members are encouraged to attend.

Upcoming events
