BLU FM 89.1 is committed to supporting local music. Here are some of the ways
- we broadcast a minimum of 25% Australian music content throughout the year
- in association with local venues, Ken Quinnell and Blu Fm work hard to provide gigs for Blue Mountains musicians to perform their music live through regular events such as the Battle Of The Bands, the Singer - Songwriter Challenge & the Acoustic Lounge
- we present Blue Mountains Music Week annually. During this week we support musicians living in the Blue Mountains area from Lapstone to Mt Victoria by sponsoring live performances and increasing our broadcast coverage of local music & by conducting interviews
- BLU PLUG is a series of CDs compiled by BLU FM which only include songs written & performed by musicians resident in the Blue Mountains area of Lapstone to Mt Victoria. BLU PLUG CDs are distributed by AMRAP nationally to radio stations. This is a great opportunity for local musicians to be heard nationally and potential for further recognition. Email BLU FM if you are interested in appearing on a future BLU PLUG CD. BLU PLUG 4 is scheduled for release early 2010.
- we are sent monthly new Australian CD releases distributed to Community Radio by AMRAP (Australian Music Radio Airplay Project), an initiative sponsored by the CBAA & APRA. David Bowden at Blu Fm listens to & distributes CDs to Presenters of shows most suitable & if played an AMRAP feedback card is filled out & forwarded back to AMRAP
- we broadcast programs such as "Essentially Local" which are devoted to playing the work of Blue Mountains' musicians
- our webpage Community Noticeboard promotes local events and the Community Noticeboard also goes to air
- we encourage Blue Mountains musicians to submit new release CDs and they can be forwarded to David Bowden at BluFm PO Box 64 Katoomba 2780. Advise BluFm of gigs/events by emailing Community Notice Board at cnb891fm@gmail.com
- we maintain close ties with events & festivals in the Blue Mountains area
