For
the lovers of drama...
BLU
FM has recently revived its radio drama group, with numerous plays
and readings soon to be on the airwaves. These productions
feature both presenters, members, and people in the community. We
especially like to promote local works to be recorded at BLU FM,
and any budding authors out there are always welcome to share
their ideas or finished pieces with us.
So
what's happening?
One
of our current projects is a radio adaptation of Tim Sanford's Contact,
staged by the Brook Community Theatre in August 2002. Recording
is currently underway and we'll keep you up to date with the process
on this website. Contact revolves around the Vietnam War and shows the conflict through the eyes of a
typical Australian family whose son is conscripted. The play shows the changes
the young twenty-year-old goes through as he experiences the fear and horror of
the war and the effect it has on his family back home.
Contact is a
deeply moving but often funny play which mirrors the way Aussie troops struggled
to maintain their sense of humour as the best weapon against the trauma of
battle. It explores the desperately strained relationships between the family
members and their shifting perceptions as the conflict progresses. Finally, it
proves that war is a secret which only soldiers can share.
The radio
script is very close to the stage version, but now with a narrator,
sound effects and additional dialogue to achieve the same powerful
effect that the stage play had - but without the visuals. It features
the majority of the original cast and is written and directed by
local resident Tim Sanford.
