About Polly Beard

Some-one once asked “where does your love of music come from”.  Well, I don’t know really.

When I was 5, I would climb up onto the kitchen bench and sit as close as possible to the radio and cry when hearing sad songs.  (There were a lot of them about back then!).

In my teens growing up in Glenelg, S.A., together with a couple mates, we ran a school dance.  We hired a local church hall, got a group of Uni under-grads. who were playing music to take pressure off studying, to thump out rock ‘n roll for us ….  It was their first gig and ours.  We had a lot of fun until the Church closed us down.  Some of the kids coming to the dance wouldn’t keep to the rules.

Music and Entertainment are in the blood.  One sister is a music teacher.  Another a lead singer in a band.

Our Grandpa was a much loved ‘Picture Show Man’ – originally a Cockney from the East End of London, he came to Australia and toured around the countryside to all the small towns (before the time of cinema houses and Drive-Ins) with the picture in his bag, hire a hall, and that’s the only way country folk got to see a movie.  Everyone loved the Picture Show Man.

I’m  also part American which may explain my love of American music.  But these days Australian is so good, between 30-50% of what I present is Australian.

I moved to The Blue Mountains 10 years ago.  I’d been a bushwalker in the Blue Mountains for years. I know nearly every track.

Presenting a Show on BLU-FM is one of the most enjoyable gigs I’ve ever had.

I love the entire process from the research, writing and producing a Show to Presenting.

And I enjoy being able to broadcast “What’s On” to our local community.  The Blue Mountains is a great place to live.  There’s any amount of fun activities to participate in and a lot of talented people have made The Blue Mountains their home.
